Château Cantenac Brown

The Château Cantenac-Brown is located in the village of Cantenac, one of the five villages of the Margaux appellation. The wonderful property was bought in the 19th century by John Lewis Brown, an animal-painter with Scottish origins. He’s the starting point of the building of the English-renaissance style castle of the estate. Château Cantenac-Brown becomes then the property of Gromard, a banker, epoch where this wine of Margaux get its rank of “Troisième Grand Cru Classé” in 1855. A century and a half later, the domain belongs to the family Simon Halabi. This family decides to give back all its letters patent of nobility to this Grand Cru of Margaux. Thus, everything is done to reveal the soil of Château Cantenac-Brown. Respect of the environment, rational control and the uses of traditional methods are the mottos of the Château. The 42 hectares produce the Grand Vin of the Château, which grow 12 to 15 months in barrels (50% in new barrels and 50% in used barrels). Coming from the plot selection of the vines of cabernet-sauvignon, merlot and cabernet-franc of this Grand Cru of Margaux, the BriO de château Cantenac-Brown is the second wine of the estate. The Sijac de Cantenac-Brown is also produced by the domaine and symbolizes the expression of the new style given to the château by the family Simon Halabi.
